As I look around the classroom I notice the lack of attention, the boredom, and all the new devices; MP3 Players, cameras, touch screens- you name it. While standing in pain, and constantly hearing myself say, “Pay attention and quiet down,” I realize the African proverb, “It Takes A Village to Raise A Child” is true to every letter. Teachers and administrators must be creative and insightful. Parents must be active. And most of all, African American history and life skills must be taught daily.
